No
one's first career is in real estate, unless
their Dad gives them the job. I went to Wake
Forest University, a family tradition, and played
tennis there for 4 years. I was to be a great
writer, but the English Department jealously
pointed out that I could earn a living playing
and teaching outdoors in shorts. I was one of
those "journeymen" pros on Tour, eventually
landing as Head Pro at the Chapel Hill Tennis
Club in the late 70's. Ever had 700 bosses?
It's too many. (I'm still a member). Local real
estate visionary discovers that local Tennis
Pro got his real estate broker's license over
the winter and bingo ….I had a new job.
That was 1983. I have never regretted it. Realtors
in college towns are a bit different. It's kind
of like the "waiter with a PhD" syndrome.
I don't feel like I am selling
anything. I have loved living in Chapel Hill
and Carrboro for so long that it's more like
introducing folks to a lifestyle that I am excited
about and amazed by every day. There is very
little difference in the joy people experience
when they find the house they are going to buy
and the thrill they get from finally hitting
3 balls in a row over the net, and realizing
that it's not a fluke. You never tire of helping
people find that feeling.
By the way, I'm the one you call if you need
golf, tennis, running, fishing, recreational
and restaurant tips in general. I have a great
source for high end appliances. Also, if the
website could be improved, let me know.
I promise that you will enjoy and value the
experience you have with any of us at Franklin
St. Realty. You should call. (Cell is 919.608.3417)
